Chico Fab Lab is a community-driven makerspace where innovation, creativity, and collaboration come to life. Our volunteers are the backbone of the lab.

Volunteering Benefits — access to tools & equipment:
Our volunteers help maintain a welcoming, functional, and inspiring environment for all members. As a volunteer, you'll play a vital role in keeping the space organized, assisting visitors, and contributing to the smooth operation of our facility.
Volunteers commit to a regular 3-hour shift per week and, in return, receive membership privileges that provide access to the lab's tools, equipment, and creative resources. Whether you're greeting guests, helping with cleanup, organizing workspaces, or assisting with special projects, you'll be part of a dynamic team that makes Chico Fab Lab a thriving hub for makers, artists, and engineers.
No prior experience is required — just a willingness to learn, collaborate, and take pride in keeping the lab running smoothly. If you're passionate about making, learning, and contributing to the community, we'd love to have you on board!
Volunteer Members pay a $40 per month membership fee and volunteer 3 hours per week. In exchange they get the equivalent of a $100 membership.
Real work, posted by the lab — pick something and jump in.
Volunteers claim tasks on the CFL Volunteer Task Board. Log in with Discord, pick a task, and mark it done when you finish — that's your 3 hours a week, on your schedule.
The biggest way to volunteer: run a zone.
A Zone Manager owns one of the lab's tool zones — they keep the equipment running, teach the weekly Safety & Basic Use (SBU) class, and are the go-to resource for members using those tools. It's the most impactful volunteer role at the lab.
